As the first “plus” bike to hit the market, Krampus changed the way many people approach trail riding. It’s shown people the light of how high volume, large diameter tyres can vastly improve the ride experience. It’s also done a bang-up job dispelling the myth that big tyres make you slow.

The Krampus is a match made in heaven for riders in Newcastle, On and Off road, ride it to the trails, rule the single track the back for a coffee or a beer afterwards, Rides with family and freinds, have an overnight adventure, you can even fit a suspension fork if thats your thing, as Surly would put it “Make it your own”.

The stock bike from Surly is fantastic, but we just wanted to make some tweeks that we feel would make it nicer for local riding styles and add a touch of class.

This is how we built it,

Frame - Surly Krampus - 100% Surly Chromoly steel, Natch tubing, double-butted main triangle, trumpet flaired tubes, double-butted tapered fork blades, TIG welded, E.D. coated

Drivetrain - Shimano CUES U8000 (Cranks, 30t Chain ring, Shifter and Rear Derailleur), Shimano LG Cassette 11 speed 11-50t CS-LG700-11, Shimano Linkglide Chain 9/10/11sp CG-LG500 and a Shimano Bottom Bracket Deore-XT 68/73mm BB-MT801

Brakes - Shimano MT200 Front and Rear, Shimano Rotor SM-RT66 6 Bolt 180mm front and 160mm Rear.

Cockpit - Salsa Rustler Riser Handle Bar 31.8/800x20mm, PRO KORYAK Stem 60/31.8mm 1-1/8" Black and Ergon GA3 Grips - Black, Lock-On.

Seating - Ergon SMC Saddle - Stealth, Mens, Medium/Large, and TranzX Dropper Post YSI36 Light Weight 30.9 - 436/150mm - Internal Routing (Stock bike comes with a 120mm dropper)

Wheels - Velocity Blunt 35 rims in green (Oh and the photos just don’t do them justice) laced with DT Swiss spokes, DT Swiss Pro Lock nipples brass, Stainless rim eyelet washers to Novatec sealed bearing hubs.

Tyres - Maxxis Rekon 29x2.60" EXO/TR - Foldable 60TPI E25
